Worth living? Life is for the living. Every day brings new challenges. we make our choices,be they family, recreational or business related. The decisions we make determine our quality of life. If we're not happy, we can redirect the course that will enable us to enjoy life even more. It is what you make it, so don't wait!
Why should we do this ? because we can. Every day I am humbled by the sight of people who were not blessed with a fully functioning body, or since birth have lost the use of it. Their determination to make every day a winner is motivation in itself. Accomplished athletes with missing limbs could retire without shame. But the passion that drives them to compete prevents them from giving up. To them losing a limb just presents a new challenge to conquer. Today the paralympics are almost as big as the Olympic Games.
There are children who are born mute, deaf or blind. Imagine for one moment living without one of those senses, let alone not having any of them. Yet, the determination of these youngsters to overcome every obstacle and live life to the fullest can bring tears to the eyes of any able bodied person. witnessing the struggle is a serious reality check for most of us. Today, while at a public event I watched six wheel chair-bound individuals making the way back to their Mercedes bus. One of them stunned me when he stopped at the front door and maneuvered out of his chair and into the driver's seat. It was a stark reminder that people who have less will do more.
Special schools assist students endeavoring to learn in an environment where disability is the entry qualification. Their every achievement is a small step forward.Very few of them can expect to find a regular job and enjoy a normal life. The one thing that spurs them on is the familiarity and intimacy of their social circle. To each other they are all normal.
By contrast, there are people who look to fail. They seek out all the excuses and legitimize their position to the point of complacency. When you stop learning, you stop living.
Life is worth living because the alternative inevitably comes too soon and lasts a long long time. Four score years is but a short time to leave your footprint on the world, so start today.
