Reasons to cloak affiliate links

Because of human nature being what it is, there is a real problem of losing commissions if you don't cloak your affiliate links.

If you're unsure if you should cloak your affiliate links or not, or even if it matters, then please read on. You'll find 5 reasons why cloaking your affiliate links may be a good idea.

1. People may choose to bypass a long affiliate link.

Cloaking links means in this article to redirect a link on your site to your affiliate link, to use domain name forwarding, or to use tracking links.

One reason you may want to do this is that some people may simply go to the main website of the business you're promoting if it is shown in your affiliate link.

If this happens and your referral is not tracked, when a sale is made you end up not getting paid commissions that are rightfully yours.

2. Long affiliate links can be cut off in email.

If you purchase ezine ads, cloaking ensures that people that want to visit the site that your advertising will be able to do so easily.

People that you refer to your chosen business and buy their product will earn you a commission. You won't end up wasting money on advertising and missing out on sales.

3. Cloaking can make your long affiliate URLs more attractive.

Cloaking can make long affiliate links more appealing by making them much shorter. It can also make it easier to get your visitors to click on your links, if your visitors don't know that the long affiliate link is an affiliate link.

4. You can easily update your links.

If your affiliate program changes affiliate program software and you end up having a new affiliate link to promote, cloaking enables you to still reap the success of the different promotions that you have in place.

You only have to update one link to keep your promotions going.

5. You can keep your link from being hijacked.

This happens when someone sees that your link is an affiliate link and decides to purchase through their own affiliate link, instead of yours, because their part of the same affiliate network .

It also happens if someone decides to join the affiliate program that you promote and purchase the product, after being referred through your affiliate link.

In these situations, redirecting your link can help if the URL your referrals see after visiting your affiliate link reverts back to it's normal domain name (yourreferredsite.com) and their isn't any mention of an affiliate program on the site.

It's also helpful if the business won't pay affiliates commissions on their own purchases.
