Superman

Honestly, I would be rooting for Batman. For whatever reason, I like the "Dark Knight", despite the fact that he is a pretty troubled dude. There is just something about him that makes you want to root for him. I know, the Man of Steel is all about Americana, along with good, justice, and the pursuit of liberty. But, for some reason he is a bit too squeaky clean. Now, I'm not an expert on all the comic book history, so I cannot speak from a position of broad knowledge regarding powers, weaknesses, and historical grievances. That said, I have a hard time seeing Batman beating Superman. After all, he is SUPERMAN. Here are a few reason why I would put my money on the Man of Steel.

SHEER POWER AND SPECIAL ABILITIES

Granted, Batman is one smart cat (sorry, bat). He knows how to sneak around, hide in dark alleys, and strike extremely quickly when no one is paying attention. That's all well and good when you are talking about your average mortal, but we're talking about the alien, Superman. We're talking about a guy that has bullets bounce off his chest and seemingly has no major weakness except for that whole Kryptonite thing. So, despite the fact that Batman has some slick moves and a whole lot of intellect, I'm going with the brute power and speed of Superman, along with the super-cooling breath, and the heat vision. Those could come in handy as well.

IF, IF, IF

I know what the Batman defenders are going to say. "Well, if..." That's nice and all, but if we're going to go down that road, then we're not really talking about a straight-up fight. Yes, if Batman had some Kryponite lying around it would be different. If Superman was in some sort of colossal intergalactic explosion and he was really weak, then perhaps Batman could come in and clean up the mess. If Superman happened to be sleeping and Batman crept in with a Kryponite ice-pick, then things might go the Dark Knight's way. But, we are again going down the ideal situation road.

Overall, I have to give the edge to Superman. Batman is cunning and might come up with a pretty good plan, but he is used to fighting people that are mostly mortal. Superman is a whole different ballgame.
