How to protect your hearing

Hearing loss has become a problem for many people today. Hearing loss can come from an assortment of activities. Every thing from hunting to your job or simply cutting the lawn can have some adverse affects to your hearing.

There is no cure for the loss of hearing. Once it has deteriorated it has gone for ever. Only with the help of hearing devices can one lead a normal life. It is important to protect your hearing. The older generation will tell you from their experiences that they wished they had worn ear protection in their younger years.

Education is the key to protecting your self. There are many different brands of ear protection on the market. The military offers foam ear plugs or the newer version of soft rubber or silicone form fitted ear protection. The artillery batteries wear the ear plugs and ear muffs to protect them from sudden loud noises that occur.

Target shooting: Ear muffs or ear plugs.

Steel Mill or factory work: Muffs or ear plugs are required.

Yard work and power tools: Ear plugs or cotton balls will suffice.

Motor sports: Ear plugs or ear muffs.

Hunting: Listening for prey is hard enough, protecting the ears from a rifle shot can be done by simply placing a cotton ball in each ear. It works great and still allows you to hear.

Swimming: Protecting the ears from water intrusion can be easily solved by the use of ear plugs.

Some people are allergic to latex and some forms of foam ear plugs. It is always best to check with your doctor on the best brands to use. Sometimes a doctor will use a form fitted ear piece to help you at work or play.

The form fitted ear pieces irritate the ear the least of all ear products. While they filter out damaging noise they also let the ear keep it's natural shape with out placing anything in the ear canal.

Most doctors tell you to never place any thing in to the ear canal bigger than your elbow. Hot environments where you sweat a lot can cause ear infections. The foam and silicone types of ear plugs hold in moisture and can cause bacteria to the inner ear.

The disposable ear protection works best in these types of environments. You can simply change the ear pieces out when ever they become to saturated. Disposable ear protection is by far the best route to take when you work in hot dirty environments.

Disposable ear protection is also very cheap and effective in keeping your ears safe from loud noises all day long. You will be glad you chose to wear your protection in the years to come.
