I hate the telephone, not just my telephone but all telephones in general. I always have. Only 3 people in the world know my home phone number, my mother, my best friend and my brother, and that's great for me because if anyone else knew it then I just wouldn't answer the phone.
I'm not rude, not in the slightest, I'm also not shy, or boring, I just can't talk on the phone to anyone, it's not me, this is the main reason I love text. Why have awkward, stilted telephone conversations for 10 minutes, while a twenty second text would probably get the same message across?
Of course there are pros and cons, there are to everything, For example I hate abbreviated text. Whenever my sister sends me a message it takes me ages to try and figure out what she's actually trying to say to me, I've been known to answer with a simple what?' just so she will use full words and sentences, I am however getting used to translating her messages now, I just refuse to use the abbreviations myself. I can speak and write perfect English and I'm not going to dumb it down just so I can send a text that millisecond quicker.
Then, and this is something I am personally guilty of, there is the drunken text. Mobile/cell phones and alcohol do not mix. I used to actually own two phones, my normal one, which held every number of everyone I know and my drunk' phone, which only stored my parents and two taxi numbers. I would only use this phone if I knew I was out having a drink. That way there was no way I could make the mistake of texting someone I really shouldn't do. I have all too often been known to text the ex, or the person I am currently interested in and tell them stuff I would never normally dream of telling them, just because I have a drink down my neck and a phone in my hand. OK, so for generations people have made drunken calls. The difference is you can ignore a phone call. You can only ignore a text for so long, but it will still be sitting there in your in box when you wake up in the morning.
The amount of times I've woken up with a hangover and dreaded checking for messages sent is unbelievable. I've done it so many times, and no doubt I'll do it again, it's just far too easy!
A great pro of the text is that you can contact a number of people at the same time. My dad was recently taken into hospital. My mum was with him, but obviously didn't want to leave his side, all she had to do was nip outside, send one message to all four of us kids' and she could be back inside by his side
