How to get free videos for your iPod

One of the best features of the iPod classic is the ability to watch a wide variety of video content including music videos, podcasts, cinema movies, TV shows, and even your own home movies.

Typically the easiest way to find videos to put onto your iPod is through the iTunes Store that's a part of your iTunes software. The site has a lot of great content, but unfortunately almost all of it has a fee attached, so if you're strapped for cash and wanting to put video on your iPod classic, you'll need to get creative. Here is a list of several ways to get free videos onto your iPod.

iTunes Store Podcasts

Most iTunes Store video podcasts are free to users, and there are some really great ones on almost every topic you can think of. This is a fantastic way to start getting free videos for your iPod and probably the easiest and most affordable.

In order to start downloading video podcasts from the the iTunes Store, you first need to have the iTunes software installed on your computer. Then, after you open the program, click the "Store" button on the left hand column to be taken to the store's main page.

From there, you click on podcasts in the submenu of the iTunes store. You can also search for podcasts in the search field in the top left hand corner. Once you've found a podcast you want to download, you click the "Get episode" button and will begin downloading.

Once the podcast episode is downloaded, you can add it to your podcast by syncing it which will add all new episodes you download automatically, or you can manually add the episode to the iPod by dragging it onto the iPod icon in iTunes.

Shareware

There are software programs out there called Shareware like or peer-to-peer programs (like LimeWire) that allow you stare files with millions of other people on the internet. These programs can also be a great resource for find videos to add to your iPod.

The downside to these programs is that the file you download may contain viruses that will harm your computer, it may take a long time to find certain video content, and the videos files that you do download may need to be converted to a video format compatible with the iPod Classic. Also, you must be aware of legal issues surrounding the downloading and distribution of copy written content.

Rip Videos

Ripping videos is a process that involves "ripping" or copying the videos from a source, like a web site (YouTube), or DVD, by using a specialized software program. There are several programs out there designed to allow you to copy DVDs and convert the video files to be used with your iPod. There are also programs and browser plugins you can install that allow you to download videos from all of the popular video sharing sites like YouTube and Google Video.

Again, there is a downside to this process. The software used to "rip" videos may come with a price tag, it may take awhile to convert the videos to a format compatible with iPod classic, and if you rip the videos from a web site like YouTube, the video may be of poor quality.

Make Your Own Videos

After trying these methods and want even another way to get free videos, you can try making your own by filming something cool. The downside to this method is that it takes time, creativity, and a video camera to make the videos. However, it's a great way to enjoy memories of your favorite experiences anywhere you happen to go with your iPod.

I hope these methods have helped you on your way to downing the wide variety of excellent videos out there. Give them a shot, you won't be disappointed.
