take advantage of the touch screen technology so you play them using your fingers rather than a mouse, which adds a slightly new dimension.
Hopefully this is a temporary situation. We have had a tantalising glimpse of one or two we can expect to be unveiled in the summer, and they look great. No doubt a lot more will come along over the next year or so, and we are promised the ability to download games via iTunes.
Apple's latest press release indicated that the possibilities already on the horizon include:
1. Super Monkey Ball. This is a Saga game where a ball-shaped monkey moves around a 3D maze eating as many bananas as possible without falling. The really cool thing about this game it the player's ability to make the monkey merely by moving the iPhone itself. Apparently you will not need to use any buttons, it will be a bit like using a Wii.
2. Spore. This EA game is the story of a primordial organism which lives in the slime and evolves by eating other creatures. The iPhone version will share the control system that Super Monkey Ball has, as well as some cute graphics and a fun concept.
These sound great, and it is good to see that some of the amazing features of the iPhone might begin to be really utilised in a game. The bad news is you won't get them until June 2008, so game fans will have to be patient
So if you want games for your iPhone that will keep boredom at bay, you could do worse then log on to Mac Most or a similar site and see what you can find. Popcap have made a version of Bejewelled which I like, and some have managed to hack into their iPhones to load Super Mario, but that's not for the faint-hearted. Most of us will have to wait a few more months for the really cool stuff!
