Wedding craft ideas for saving money

All little girls dream of the day they walk down the isle with their father the the man who has promised to stay by their sides for the rest of their lives. The flowers are perfect, the flower girl is as cute as can be, and the dress is something that looks like it came out of a princess fairy tail. One thing that never is thought of is the cost, until the day that man proposes to the girl. That is when the reality sets in that weddings are very expensive.

I won't say how much I spent on my wedding in July of 2007, but I will say it was more than I had originally planned to spend. When my husband first popped the question I started looking through all the wedding magazines, catalogs, and the craft stores for ideas. As I was looking at the flowers, champagne flutes and other wedding essentials I noticed that many of the things I saw I could make myself with a little time. By doing things myself I knew I would be saving quite a bit of money. On the flowers alone I probably save close to a thousand dollars.

One of the easiest crafts I did was the champaign flutes. In one of the craft books that I saw at the craft store had a beautiful set of flutes. So I went to Big Lots and purchased six plain flutes for two dollars a piece. At the craft store I got a variety of small, individual flowers that were located in the wedding section and some beads on a string. At home I used hot glue and stated wrapping the beads around the stem of the flute periodically placing a small dot of glue to hold them in place. When the whole stem was wrapped I made an arrangement with the three of the flowers. Then I tide a small ribbon around the stems of the flowers, cut the excess wire, and with a generous amount of glue attached the flowers to the base. I used three different arrangements; the most elegant for the bride and groom and the other two for the wedding attendant. I spent less on these six than on two from a catalog, and the attendants could keep them as a gift.

To go with the champagne flutes, I made a matching cake service set, guest book, and pen holder. With those I used identical flower arrangements to what was glued to the flutes, minus the beads. This tide all the small items together. These were simple crafts that cost less than half of what they would have cost at a wedding boutique, but everyone that attended the wedding gave a compliment on them.

Another slightly more involve craft was the card collection box. For this I bought two different size pressed cardboard boxes. The ones I chose were round, but I recently made one for a fiend that is in the shape of a heart. The smaller box I set the lid to the side and then centered it on the lid of the lager box and traced abound it. Then with a razor knife cut about a quarter inch inside that line. When I finished with that I used hot glue and glued the small box upside down to the top of the lid. When the glue cooled I cut a rectangular hole in the bottom of the small box for an opening to drop cards though and the painted and decorated both boxes to look a miniature wedding cake. This I spent around twenty dollars on, compared to spending twenty-five on a undecorated wire cage for card.

These are just a couple of crafts that I did to save money. With a little creativity, research, and effort there are many crafts the a bride can save money by doing herself. This will mean more money for the extra special touches to make the dream of a little girl come true.
