popular From Here to Eternity. Starting in 1958 Reed starred in her own television series for eight years. Reed earned four Emmy nominations for Best Actress, winning two and won one Golden Globe award. In the late 70's Donna reappeared in various television shows and movies including one season of Dallas. Reed died in 1986 of pancreatic cancer.
There were several other great actresses from the 40's that deserve to be mentioned. Barbara Stanwyck had a healthy career being considered the eleventh greatest movie star of all time by the American Film Institute. She starred in films such as Double Emnity and Lady Eve. Stanwyck finished her acting career with two television series, The Colby's and The Big Valley. Greer Garson was a British actress who starred in a number of American films including her award winning Mrs. Miniver. She suffered a slump with bad movies in the late 40's. Garson found a well-written script and well-received film with That Forsyte Woman in which she starred with Errol Flynn. She finalized her career with various television movies and retired in the early 70's. Lana Turner (born as Julia Jean Turner) is best known for her leading role in the Postman Always Rings Twice in 1946. Turner received her only Oscar nomination for Peyton Place in 1957, but didn't win. She became more known for her personal life than for her professional life with her seven marriages, twice to one man. Her only daughter went to trial and was acquitted for killing her boyfriend since the court found it justified. Yet, it really doesn't take away from her incredible gift as an actress.
