You would think with all the advancements in technology that today's American children would be more knowledgeable than their counterparts from 20-30 years ago. They know how to use the disk defragmenter to compact the hard drive, thus they must know more, right? That is very, very wrong. What today's kids do not know is astounding.
My soon-to-be-step-kids are good kids; unfortunately they are a product of today's less-than-enthusiastic-teaching. Two of them are in high school one a sophomore in college. One didn't know what veal was, another didn't know what the word "gadget" meant, while the college student writes like an elementary student. I am choosing to home school because there seems to be a lack of good-old-fashioned-common-sense-knowledge in today's children. My eldest child is two years old, my youngest is eight months old and I am completely set on the idea of home schooling and have been ever since my two year old was born. I believe any parent has the right to do this, should they decide to do so.
Teachers are being laid off or are quitting because there is little money funded by the state. As a result the teachers who remain are teaching unheard of class sizes. There is no one-on-one teacher-student relationship anymore. Individual attention per each student is now impossible. And because of this, American tests scores are far behind our counterpart countries and countries with a poor economic status or countries considered to be less "civilized" than our own.Besides not learning anything substantial in school, today's child also has to deal with weapons on campus. In this unfortunate time we live in, you cannot turn on the television without hearing about a child took a gun onto campus and randomly shoot their fellow classmates, then committing suicide. Usually by a child who is depressed, hates the world, and believes that because they are upset, others should be too. Why put your children in this situation if you don't have to? If today's pupil isn't dealing with "weapons of mass destruction", if you will, they are dealing with an increasing population of teachers who are molesting are youth. Whether it's a female teacher harassing her male student or a male teacher harassing his female student, this is becoming an increasing problem.
Today's public school pupil has to deal with the absence of basic learning, weapons of mass destruction and over sexualized teachers who feel the need to personally teach them about sex education. With that in mind I wonder why more parents are not completely enthralled with the idea of home schooling.
Understandably, not many families are capable of keeping a household on one income; this is becoming ever so harder to do. Perhaps this is intentional by the government. Conceivably, the government is making it more and more difficult for families to survive on one income, thus families are forced to send their kids to public schools, even when they don't want to. This way, the few teachers who remain, can brainwash them into a particular viewpoint, usually political in nature. There can be a whole host of reasons.
To those of you who are able to survive on one income, I ask you: why not consider home schooling? Yes, private schools are an option, but it's a costly one. Think about it before you decide, your kids are counting on you!
