Hot dogs and Brats are favorites, as are hamburgers. Don't forget the condiments and buns; an angry crowd is not a pleasant sight. There are a variety of themes that can designate the food for your tailgate party. Some of the additional theme ideas are below.

New Orleans party with Cajun treats. Try jambalaya as your soup. Add spicy chicken wings, beef with a fiery sauce, or pulled pork as a main course.

Tex-Mex flavor is always a hit. Chili, Chili, Chili and, of course, nachos and taco fixings should be part of the Tex-Mex menu. Barbecues are also a must with this theme.

Chinese anyone? Plan your meal around a stir-fry skillet. These are easy to prepare recipes that can be cooked on site with no hassle. If you feel adventurous bring chopsticks, but don't expect all guests to use them. Don't forget the fortune cookies.

Add elegance to your site. This is for the more serious of Tailgaters. The entire surroundings should be that of luxury with only the best in serving utensils and food. A pot for boiling crab legs and lobster can be brought along with the main dishes saying gourmet. Fine wine is a great addition for this type of tailgate party. It is not impossible, as this writer has had a gourmet meal, including fine crystal and candles at a tented campsite. A little planning and good packing material made the trip quite easy.

If you choose one of the food themes already listed, your car contest, if you choose to have one, can also revolve around the same theme. Decorations are still most appreciated when they are involving the local team's colors.

A word of warning that most everyone knows, but is still worth repeating. If your guests are drinking make certain that they have a designated driver to get them home. A happy ending for festivities is always the best ending.
