Life necessities

If we were to find ourselves alone and naked, stranded on some deserted island or some other place in the middle of nowhere, we would soon find out what life's necessities are. With no electricity, no gas, no clean water, no shelter, no readily available food, no clothing, and no companion, that would really be an eye opening experience.

What if you had no toilet tissue, no shampoo, no laundry detergent, or no bed to lie on? There are some people who find themselves without these basic items. These simple things are not necessities, but we believe they are. There are mothers with young children, in our welfare system, who cannot afford these "luxuries". They may find it hard to even purchase Tylenol for a sick child. Things happen. Fathers and/or mothers abandon their responsibilities or for what ever reason cannot meet them. If we were to walk a day in their shoes we would understand the difficulties they face.

Man can survive through a lot of things and without a lot of things. The creator gave us dominion over this world. He put the things here that we need as well as the tools for using them. He gave man the intelligence to find and use these things for mans benefit. For instance clean drinking water, we have the ability to make our water potable. In some countries, the funds are not available to do this, or the funds are not directed correctly. People die from contaminated water.

We should be grateful when our life's necessities are met, yet many of us take them for granted. Most of us have a very long list of what we consider life's necessities. We think our make-up, sodas, coffee, telephone, television, etc. are all necessities. They are not, although most of us believe we can not live without them. " Luxury " seems to have become more prominent in our minds rather than "necessity" these days.

As I said, find yourself alone and naked in some forgotten place and you will discover what your necessities truly are. We would either find ourselves sitting in hopelessness or we would get up and look around to see what could be used for our survival. We may have to sew together a few fig leaves with a needle made from a fish bone. Perhaps we would sharpen up a few stones to make spears with and clothe ourselves with animal hides. All through history, man has had to struggle to meet life's necessities. We, I am afraid, have forgotten what they truly are.
