For many people, having their own online business is a very attractive prospect. Making money with seems like a very easy thing to do and in some ways it is but there is no real way to get rich quick or become a millionaire by only spending a few minutes a week on your computer. The key to creating an online business is much the same as any business; it will take time, hard work, perseverance, and a strong desire to be successful.

Doing simple things online like paid email and surveys is very easy and you can start making money in a matter of a few minutes, basically the amount of time it takes you to join the program, but you won't make much money at it and it doesn't really qualify as an online business. A real online business will have the potential to let you earn your living with it alone and no other income sources and the steps you take to create it will depend on which type of online method you choose. There are many different businesses you can start online so I'm going to outline a few of the more popular ones and then give you some steps to take to be successful in any of them.

Products Sales - Probably the most common business is one that offers products for sale. You can sell them from your own website, on mini-sites offered at places like Squidoo, auction sites like Ebay, or through online stores you can set up at places like CafPress or Zazzle.

I'll talk about having your own website in a minute but for now let's assume that you have a product that you either make or buy at wholesale that you would like to sell. The easiest way to set up selling online is with the auction sites like Ebay. For modest fees, you can offer products through their site and have the advantage of a huge supply of customers that visit their site every day looking for products. A lot of people get started with auctions to sell off personal items they don't want anymore and then when they run out of stuff to sell, they look for wholesale sources to continue making money. A simple way to sell with minimal effort is by selling products through dropshippers. You offer the product and when it sells, you pass along the buyer's information and payment (less your profit) and the company ships the item directly to your customer. You don't have to worry about stocking inventory, packaging or shipping.
