Scariest movie monsters: The images that stay with you

Any great horror movie is only as scary as the monster/entity in the movie. A terrifying villain is essential to creating fear in an audience. Certain movie monsters have left mental images in my head that I can never forget. Here is a list of some of Hollywood's creepiest ghouls and what makes them so horrific.

-Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre)- The character of Thomas Brown Hewitt, a.k.a Leatherface (due to masks he has created from leather and human skin), was made popular by the series of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" films. What makes this character so terrifying is his brute strength and ruthlessness. In the movies, Leatherface is mentally challenged but extremely strong physically. He is under the control of his sadistic family who order him to kill anyone they please. He does so with his strength and a powerful chainsaw. The image that stuck in my mind of Leatherface is in the 2003 remake when he is in pursuit of Jessica Biel's character. After Leatherface steps in front of the headlights of the van she is hiding in, you can see that he is wearing the face of her boyfriend he has just slaughtered. Creepy! Another thing that makes Leatherface's obsession with skin so creepy is that it was based on an actual fetish of Ed Gein, a real-life serial killer.

-"The demon" (The Exorcist)- What makes the demonic entity in "The Exorcist" so terrifying is that is an unseen monster. The character of Regan (Linda Blair) is possessed by this evil spirit throughout this memorable movie. This demon has super-human power when it enters the body of Regan, and is almost uncontainable. Weapons of a physical nature are utterly useless in battling this demon, and a priest is called on to wage a spiritual battle against it. The mental, physical, and spiritual power of this monster is unbelievably strong. The scariest scene to me was watching the demon-possessed Regan's contorted body crawl across the ceiling and walls. This movie is an all-time horror classic, mainly because of the chilling portrayal of the evil demon.

-"Michael Myers" (Halloween)- The face says it all. Cold, pale, and lifeless. After murdering most of his family as a young boy, Michael Myers is locked up in a mental institution. Just days before Halloween years later, Michael escapes to go on another killing spree. What makes this monster so scary is his relentless pursuit to kill any and all people that he encounters. He is large, brutally strong, and terrifying to look at. John Carpenter did a great
