Ipods are great devices to listen to music, podcasts and sometimes you can enjoy great video when you're on the go. At some point, for whatever reason, these mobile devices occasionally freeze and you can't seem to navigate forward or back and none of the menu items seem to work. There is no response.
There are many reasons for this freeze-up to occur. It can be caused by playing large video files, a corrupted mp3 file, a low battery or insufficient available space on your Ipod. Ensure that when you are syncing your Ipod that it is not ejected it until it is safe to do so. This can damage your Ipod or corrupt the data on it. When you have resolved some of these situations, your Ipod may not freeze as frequently or at all.
You could also attempt to shut it off, or connect it to the computer to synchronize it. If neither of these procedures work or bring your Ipod back to life, you can try to reset it. You can reset your device by pressing the MENU and the CENTER buttons, located on the click wheel at the same time, for about 5 to 6 seconds, until you see the Apple logo. After the Apple logo appears, your device will restart and your regular menu should appear. If this doesn't resolve your problem try sliding the hold button back and forth and then retry the reset instructions as above.
You can restore your Ipod by connecting it to your computer and restoring it to the default settings. This should be a last resort though, as this procedure will erase all data from your Ipod and you may have to reconfigure your settings. If all of the suggestions above fail, then contact customer support or an 'Apple' store. There may be warranty left on your Ipod, or the freeze-up may be due to a different issue. Apple provides excellent customer support and if all else fails, it is well worth the effort.
The Ipod is a great mobile device for listening to your personal collection of media. It is lightweight and small, but in some conditions it may freeze-up. Hopefully, by following these tips, you can minimize the times that this may happen, or you may prevent it from happening at all. Practice good habits with your Ipod and you will enjoy your device for a long time to come.
