Six Quick Ways to Stop Leaks in Water Pipes. Even a small leak in a water pipe in your house can cause big damage and greatly increased water bills. If the leak is small enough, you do not have to call the plumber right away. Follow one of the six methods below to stop the leak in the water pipe fast.
Fix Leaking Pipes Tape
The easiest way to repair a small leak in the pipe is to wrap the pipe well with duct or electrical tape. Begin wrapping before the leak in the water pipe starts and wrap it diagonally around until the entire leak area is covered.
Fix Leaking Pipes Epoxy
Using epoxy to fix leaking pipes works best at pipe joins and fittings. Before applying the epoxy to seal the leak, drain the water, dry the pipes, and clean it with steel wool.
Fix Leaking pipes Pipe Clamp
Purchase a pipe clamp in the correct size to fit the leaking pipe. Then, clean the pipe very well and wrap it in a rubber pad wrapped over the leak area. Screw the pipe clamp securely over the rubber pad. This method can even stop larger leaks in water pipes.
Fix Leaking Pipes Hose Clamp
A host clamp can be used in much the same way as the pipe clamp, but only on smaller leaks. Begin by wrapping it with the rubber pad and then use one or more hose clamps to tighten the pad over the leaking pipe.
Fix Leaking Pipes C-Clamp and Blocks
On a small leaking pipe, you can use a small c-clamp to path it. Begin with a rubber pad directly over the leak. Then, place a small wooden block or strip on top. Use the c-clamp to hold it all in place. The blocks protect the pipe from the pressure of the c-clamp.
Fix Leaking Pipes Tin Can Clamp
To fix larger leaks the recycled materials and the c-clamp method, you can use a tin can. Cut the ends off the tin can and cut it up one side. Bend the cut ends of it so they are flat and can meet. This will serve as a homemade pipe clamp. Use a rubber pad over the leak and then the homemade tin can clamp. You can use wooden blocks and a c-clamp to tighten it over the leaking pipe.
These methods for repairing a small leak in your water pipes can save you a lot of money. For larger leaks, it is better to call a plumber.
