I've encountered people who have remained content with their life thus far. The grass in their yard was the same color green as the grass in their next door neighbor's yard. I'd view them as complacent and rarely taking chances, always maintaining their lawn by simply adding water to it here and there. Well, I noticed my grass, over time, resembled that of a hay patch. I found myself complaining incessantly about all of the things that I loathed about where we lived and the more I recognized what other places had to offer, the "blemishes" of our area just seemed to magnify. It lead me to the firm conclusion that we simply had to move. Yes, I was willing to go that far just to reach what I thought would create a better existence for our family.
In the past, my husband and I had toyed with the idea of moving, but this time, we took action. There were several things that factored into our decision. The air quality was unhealthy, the population in our area had doubled, the temperature was insanely hot most of the year and we were even finding things to criticize the people about. Raising kids had changed some of our past goals and we convinced ourselves that we didn't want them growing up in our present environment. After deciding on a region of the U.S. and researching certain cities and what they had to offer; schools, activities, population and such, we locked in on a place. My husband interviewed for jobs and was hired sooner than we had anticipated. It was great, but it made things come a little faster than we had expected.
Searching for and selling a house at the same time, during the holiday season is not a smart plan. Besides making Christmas as "normal" as possible for the kids, we were in the midst of packing and cleaning out. To add to the confusion, we were in transit between the two cities to find another home; BUT the grass remained emerald green and evenly groomed.
The real estate situation was still unresolved when we moved (and continues to follow us TO THIS DAY). We had unwisely gone on and purchased another home under the dilution that our present house would easily sell that upcoming spring.
You know how you feel when you go on vacation, and everything is exciting and new?
That is how moving to a different, up and coming mountainous city felt like for us; for about two months. When I state, "the grass was greener", I mean, literally GREENER. The area sparkled with clarity in the sunshine, however, we arrived when the sun was shy to show itself no
