The ABCs of multivitamins

Multivitamins is a tablet or a capsule containing several vitamins and sometimes minerals. They are dietary supplementsa category that used to include just vitamins and minerals but now also encompasses herbs, amino acids, fish oils, hormones, and many other substances. It provides additional vitamins for those having dietary imbalances or has different nutritional needs.

There is no doubt how important vitamins and minerals are. Both of them are needed in proper amounts to trigger thousands of chemical reactions necessary to maintain good health. These chemical reactions are linked together that any deficiency could possibly cause harmful effects.

Vitamins enhance the body's use of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. They play a vital role in the formation of blood cells, hormones, nervous system chemicals known as neurotransmitters and the DNA. Vitamins are classified into two groups' namely fat soluble vitamins (such as Vitamins A, D, E, K) and water soluble vitamins (composed of Vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, and folic acid,

Fat soluble vitamins are normally absorbed by our body together with the aid of foods that contains fats while water-soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body. Foods that contain water-soluble vitamins need to be eaten daily to replenish the body's needs since they rapidly exits our body in the form of urine if taken in large quantities.

Minerals, on the other hand, are needed for the proper growth of teeth and bones. Mineral nutrients are categorized as major and trace elements. They also help in such cellular activity as enzyme action, muscle contraction, nerve reaction, and blood clotting.

For better understanding, let us discuss in details all the vitamins and other important information we need according to how they are categorized.
