It is indeed one of the founding fathers of the United States - Thomas Jefferson - who has said: "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold, is for people of good conscience to remain silent". And indeed, this has happened; but albeit in stealth mode. The merciful under tyrant's rule, are oblivious of this fact. The citizens of the US, and all other nations for that matter, have fallen prey to Plato's Cave analogy: if you make the slave believe that he is free, he will not revolt. We are kept in this illusion of freedom of 'choice': choice of television channel, supermarket, film and even political candidate. But despite all our 'choices', we cannot break free form our discontent, gnawing at the basement of our sanity. Soon after we 'democratically' chose our political candidate (hero), we find that he (or she) reverts to the prior administration's ideals: divide and conquer. And kid yourself not: the current presidential candidates will be no different, apparent in their smear tactics as they face possible failure.
It is because we have rulers instead of leaders. Where as the ruler talks down to his people from a podium, the leader talks to his people while amongst them; while the ruler talks from a teleprompter, the leader talks from the heart; while the ruler talks of war shaking his fist, the leader talks of peace with an open hand of healing. After so many generations of allowing power hungry, unethical and unreasonable bureaucrats to 'rule' us; we have forgotten the true purpose of a government. A government is there to serve its people; to help steer the administrative ship, while the people can do the work they love, and help humanity evolve.
But this deafening silence of the reasonable and ethical man and woman, has caused an unbalance so severe, that it is threatening not only our liberties as human beings, but the existence of the human race and of earth in general. Our power-mad rulers have become so arrogant and ruthlessly blind, that they threaten the future of not only our children, but their's as well. Their reason and ethics - poorly absorbed since their childhoods - have completely disappeared.
The whole world needs a change of heart; a philosopher's heart of reason, ethics, altruism and love. If not, we will be another Roman Empire disappearing into the dust of archaeological find. But alas, this time - for it is a global empire of 6.6 billion frenzied consumers - the archaeologists will be an alien race digging up the bones of a once miraculous species called Mankind...
