Created on: March 09, 2008

The Birman cat breed is a beautiful cat that with comes with a legend all its own! " Sinh was a beautiful white cat that would stay by his master's side all the time. One evening while the master, Mun-Ha, was praying to a golden goddess with bright blue eyes he was attacked and killed the cat Sinh, put his feet on his dead master and looked at the goddess as he did this his white fur turned to all gold and his paws turned brown and his eyes a bright blue just like the goddesses. As did all the rest of the temple cats". It is said that the cat did not leave the temple for seven days and on the seventh day he died and carried his owner Mun-Ha's soul into paradise."

For a cat that had such a mystical and powerful legendary beginning the breed, has had just as bad luck tying to keep from becoming extinct. By the end of World War 2 only one male and one female remained. In 1967 there were enough cats again for the Birman breed to be recognized as again as a breed in the United States. The breed was also expected by the CFA (Cat Fancier's Association.)
