How many of you would buy an insurance policy that covered retail therapy? I strongly suggest that insurance companies consider the idea as there's a huge market for retail therapy coverage. We all know that when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with shopping for fun. If you're feeling blue and need that instant gratification, a good shopping spree will fix you right up. Just the idea of running through my favorite store, on a mission, to buy whatever strikes me, makes feel happy. Doesn't really matter if I'm shopping for clothing, shoes, furniture or linens, I still feel my temperature rise. Shopping is the ultimate dose of Prozac. The effects are beneficial to your psyche, your looks, and your environment. Retail therapy provides us with the opportunity to focus on material things, temporarily forgetting about our problems, while improving our lifestyle. Now that's what I call a cure for all that ails you.
Just like the saying, "Don't bet more than you can afford to lose," pertains to gamblers, you can't spend more than you can afford to lose during retail therapy sessions. Going into debt buying lots of stuff, will only come back to haunt you. The side effects of overspending, even during these critical outbreaks, will come back and bite you hard. Going into debt to shop out the blues doesn't work. Overspending means you'll have no more money, and then it'll be a long time until you'll be able to shop through that pain. Bummer.
Here's how it starts. You feel restless, perhaps tormented, in need of some TLC. Nothing peaks your interest or can take your mind off of him, or it. You suddenly grab the car keys and drive like the wind to your nearest and dearest retail outlet. Only there will you get the solace, the comfort you so desperately need to feel whole once more.
You rush into the store and proceed to grab things that soothe your soul, tantalize your senses, and promise to comfort you forever. Now, that's a good deal at any price! Retail therapy at its finest, appeals to all of your senses. The possibilities for your future happiness once again become reality. Now, I ask you, what could be more fun? Nothing. Nada. This is it. The definition of heaven on earth, is shopping for fun, creating the relief you need and can only derive, from the retail therapy experience. Keep in mind, there is a limit, just as there is with anything that is great fun, to the shopping cure. When you're jeopardizing your finances, spending too much time stalking the stores, or buying things you have no use for, then it's time to get another type of therapy.
With moderation and some control, retail therapy can work for you. Meanwhile, shop 'til you drop.
