Talking dogs: How dogs communicate in human-like ways

Have you ever noticed how dogs can seem to communicate with you using no words at all? They can almost seem to talk! No, I am not crazy, but doesn't it seem sometimes that your dog is trying to tell you something? You only need to look in his face to find out what he may be thinking.

Here is what I mean: At Christmas and you think it may be cute to put those doggie-reindeer antlers on your dog. Of course, even when your dog resists, you win and place those silly things on his head. The, when you admire the affect, you can see in his facial expression what he really thinks. If your dog is like mine, the expression on his face will tell you that he thinks this is a humiliating experience.

In another example: Normally you probably feed your dog his good-for-you dry dog food with a little gravy on top to sweeten it up. Then, try putting just the dry dog food in his dish with little added bonuses. Take a look at his face again. You will be able to see in his eyes how disgusted he is.

You can always tell when a dog is happy by the look on his face. Watch a person walking their dog on the street. The dog's tail is usually erect and bobbing up and down with pleasure. His doggy mouth is always open hugely with his tongue hanging out and a wide doggy-grin. That dog simply oozes happiness because he and his master are sharing his time together.

Next watch a dog in a family with children. You can see how protective he is over his family pack. See how he stands watching over every move the children make. He knows it is his responsibility to keep the family and children safe. Notice how his forehead is wrinkled in his determination and seriousness. There is no-nonsense now. That dog takes his responsibilities seriously and he is on the job!

Notice how your dog's eyes plead with you to throw his ball for him to fetch. See how he expresses his anticipation when he waits for his master's return after a long work day. And, watch him show his emotion when he knows you are disappointed at something he has done wrong. Look at his tail as he walks away dejected.

That is all a form of communicationa way your dog may be talking to you? It may not be in words, but the expressions he uses are in a form that humans can understand. Your dog is literally talking' to you in his own doggie way. Don't let anyone tell you that dogs cannot talk, because they certainly do!
