If you had but a day in time
to make your mark in life,
would you waste it with tears
or cast your lot with strife?
Would you hold your loved ones near
and whisper of your joy
in knowing each and every one
or with your last moments toy?
Would you set the record straight
on arguments from the past,
or end your life here on Earth
with an all-consuming laugh.
Would you rant and rail to Heaven high
and scold those here below,
or welcome every second left
and praises to God bestow?
Think about these words I've writ
and keep them ever in your heart,
for there is no promise, dear one
tomorrow we won't depart.
