Odd jobs for college students

College students need to have an avenue where they make extra money for leisure pursuits and food or clothing. The amount of money they obtain through student loans and scholarships just isn't enough for all their needs, especially if they have to move away from home to attend college. There are many ways in which students can make extra money without giving up much of their free time or taking time away from their studies. Odd jobs are available in many different venues that will still allow students to choose the times they can work and still leave them plenty of time for study or to hang out with their friends.

Check with the bookstore on campus. The bookstore hires only students of the college to work as cashiers. When you apply, you also submit a copy of your class schedule and the person making up the word schedule will work around this. For the most part, students only work a few hours a day in the bookstore and this is usually during the day.

The library is another place on campus where students can get a part-time job that works around the class schedule. At the library, students can work at reshelving the books or on the check out desk. There is usually a food court at the college where the various kiosks hire students. Again these facilities work around your schedule, plus possibly provide cheaper options for meals in discounts given to workers.

Off-campus, there is also potential for obtaining odd jobs that will provide students with extra spending money. This can include such jobs as working on the cash in a department store, or a convenience store. Restaurants also hire students to wait tables.

Babysitting is an avenue with potential for making extra money, but if you are new to the city, it may take time to get into this type of work. During the spring and summer, students can get odd jobs at mowing lawns and weeding flower beds. In northern areas, students can make money by shoveling snow in the winter as all homeowners will gladly pay to have their driveways and walkways shoveled. One way to get calls for these types of jobs is to post notices on the bulletin boards at the college.

Students with a talent for crafts can sell the products they make. Saturday mornings are very popular times for flea markets and it doesn't cost anything to stick up a sign and set up a table on the lawn. The number of people that will buy such crafts is surprising and they may even place orders for extra items.
