I'm a huge horror fan. I don't scare easily during movies or while reading a book so when i come across something that makes me jump a bit I am quite pleased. Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Clive Barker and more. I love them all. What i enjoy best while watching a horror film is when something happens that I remember for a long time. Just that one scene that makes me go "alright!"
Night of the Living Dead had one of those scenes. I'm not quite sure if I remember it because of the scene itself or by the way my brother and sister-in-law reacted to it and me. There's a group of people in this old farm house trying to defend themselves against the zombies outside. Being a horror lover I found the movie to be a bit boring at first. But after awhile i got into it.
Anyway, my husband and i and my in-laws went to a drive in movie to see this film. There we are sitting in the car watching. The night was dark that evening so inside the car was dark. Now my in-laws knew me well enough by then to know not much phased me when it came to horror movies. They on the other hand had trouble dealing with them. I'm not sure which one was worse.
So here we are, watching intently by then when all of the sudden this zombie smashes his arm and hand through a door. The door of course splintered and there was this huge jagged piece pointing to the inside. This zombie then proceeds to grab this girl by the back of her head. He then begins to slowly pull her face toward the door. She of course is screaming and fighting to get away. But no luck. He continues to pull her toward the door and suddenly the watcher realizes that he is directing her eye right toward that huge splinter.
For some reason I couldn't handle that. I lowered myself down in the seat till i was looking at the dashboard of the car. All at once i felt the back of my seat being kicked and i looked over at my husband and saw his body being moved from the kicking going on behind him. Then I heard, "Oh no!"
I began to laugh. My husband began to laugh, (he's the only one who watched the scene by the way). He told us when it was over and we all raised our heads. I asked my in-laws why they had scurried so quickly down in the seat and they said, "when YOU ducked we knew we were in trouble so we ducked too. If You can't handle a scene in a horror movie we KNOW we can't."
The look on their faces was priceless. They were honestly scared. But i didn't duck because of the "scare," I ducked because i couldn't stand the thought of watching
