My personal choice for a vacation would always be somewhere in the mountains. I don't have much use for the beach. I lived in Florida for several years and I had my fill of the beaches. They were overcrowded with people. Plus you had the heat and the humidity. There was no shade. I'm not much into baking in the sun. I'm one of those people who worry about premature aging and skin cancer too much. So I didn't want to just lay there on the hot sand and bake like a lobster. And then when you got way too hot and couldn't stand it you would head into the water just to cool off and be able to breath again. Plus I hated the sand. After the beach it felt like you tracked the sand into your clothes and car. It is just an unpleasant place for me. Its nice to visit once or twice but I would never vacation just for the beach.
Now the mountains has always been and will always be my idea of paradise. I'm blessed with living in the amazing and beautiful Pacific Northwest. If I drive outside I can see the amazing view of Mt Hood with its now snow covered summit and it never fails to take my breath away. Then on a clear day I can see Mt Saint Helens and Mt Rainer raising up all the way in Washington in their magnificent heights. Its just awe inspiring and never ceases to capture my eyes and my heart.
When summer comes there is nothing better then heading into the mountains. I love the tree's, the lakes, the mountain rivers and streams. When spring time hits the rhododendrons and the Bear Grass bloom and the mountain ferns turn green. You can drive on one of the many mountain roads and see views of Gods world stretching out before you. Breathtaking wilderness that is untouched and wild and free. The wildlife flourishes in abundance and an evening sunset can take your breath away and make your heart pound in all its glory.
And not just Oregon offers such wonderful sights. I love the Rockies in Colorado, the Sierra Nevada's in California or Mt Shasta. And I have been awe struck by the Tetons of Wyoming and the Bighorns. One evening I was actually blessed to be driving thru the Bighorns of Wyoming and I was amazed at the red beauty of the mountains where Bighorn Sheep truly flourished. There are so many Mountain ranges in the US to explore. I have not had the pleasure of viewing even half of them. But the few that I have been able to visit and explore have captured my heart as no place ever can.
Beaches just have no interest for me. But mountains do. Camping in them, hiking in them, fishing in them, those are my idea of heaven when it comes to a vacation.
