Best man tips: What to do if the groom has cold feet

You have been chosen as the best man. You are the Groom's wing man. You do not have a clue. Fear not as all of your manly instincts will come to the forefront when you need them the most. There was a reason that he picked you after all. (Other than the fact that the two of you played hooky together in High School) You are the best man, and you are prepared for any scenario.

Bachelor party?
Check.
Ring?
Check.
Toast?
C heck.
Groom changing their mind about this wedding thing? Oh no. You are not prepared for that.

When the Groom starts to get cold feet, it is a situation that you as the best man must handle. Not the Groomsmen, and certainly not the Matron of honor. Only you can guide your Groom through this wedding disaster. Here are some tips to help you with this perplexing problem. (Some serious and some not so much)

Remind the Groom to be that his Bride is probably doing the same thing - And then proceed to watch him pass out from hyperventilation fits. When he wakes up, maybe he will forget.

Give the Groom the old you are so lucky speech - Remind the Groom why he is marrying this wonderful Bride. Help him realize that it is perfectly normal to have cold feet,
and that once he sees the Bride coming down the aisle, he will forget all about the cold feet.

Take the Groom on a tour of all of his old girlfriends - Remind the Groom of all of his former girlfriends and why he is no longer with them. The realization of how great his wife is will shock him into his senses. Be warned that this can also have the reverse affect and scare him off of marriage forever. (It's a risky maneuver)

Remind the Groom of all the benefits of being married - No longer having to worry about having a date on Saturday night. No longer being alone when you wake up in the morning. Having someone to help you become a better man. Long movie nights on the weekends. Sharing a bond that is virtually unbreakable when done right. (Note - Make sure that you are careful about the music playing in the background. You do not want this moment to turn into a scene from a chick flick. If it does, you will find yourself on the receiving end of a very hard nipple twist.)

Pull out a picture of your own wife and kids - This is another tough one as you might get an awwwww moment, or you might make him run for fear of you reciting your favorite scene from Beaches. You run the risk so choose wisely.

Simply have the Man pray about it - The Lord can calm any storm, and certainly this would qualify. There is something about laying yourself bare before the Lord that gives a man perspective on what he truly wants from life. This is the most effective method that a Man can try.

In all seriousness, the Groom will have his moments most of the time, so be prepared for this moment. Having something simple yet clear to say is vital. Make sure you remind him of why he wanted to marry the Bride in the first place, and he will come around. If you try all of the above, and nothing seems to work, then maybe it is not cold feet. Make sure that he says that, and not you.

Being a best man is not hard if you simply let your manly instincts take over, and then do the exact opposite.
