Free things to do in Paris, France

With the weak dollar many American's are foregoing their trip to Europe, but surprisingly, Paris, France can be done on a budget. If you plan well enough in advance you can get your airline tickets at a decent price, and if you are not picky about your accommodations you can also get a nice hotel room for a good price.

Now that you are in one of the most beautiful, and romantic cities in the world what can you do to continue saving money while enjoying a memorable trip to France? Here are some of my favorites:

1. The Eiffel tower is a must see for anyone visiting Paris. It is a landmark defining Parisian architecture, culture, and art. Although it cost to go up the Eiffel tower one can certainly appreciate the magnitude of this structure from the ground. The Eiffel tower can be seen from just about anywhere in Paris, and so you can view this magnificent landmark during your trip from many different views throughout the city.

2. The Seine River runs throughout the city of Paris, and is certainly free. Sidewalks make it possible to stroll up and down the river where you can sit and watch artist paint, enjoy a picnic, watch the boats cruise back and forth along the river, and enjoy the architecture surrounding the Seine along with the historically charming, and beautifully crafted bridges crossing the seine.

3. Notre Dame Cathedral is free to the public as well. It does cost to climb the stairs to the belfry, but there is no cost to enter the cathedral. Once inside, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful stain glass windows and the historical importance of this gothic cathedral.

4. Art: While the city of Paris is brimming with art many tourists want to visit the museums, so if you are in Paris the first Sunday of every month you can visit the Louvre, D'Orsay, and Centre Pompidou. But keep in mind the lines will be long. Another great way to see and enjoy art is to visit Montmartre where the square is brimming with artists who are eager to share their creations.

5. Parks: Tuileries located on the right bank expands from the Place de la Concorde to the front door of the Louvre. This beautifully designed garden is filled with statues, fountains, benches, and neatly trimmed hedges. Kids are often seen floating their toy sail boats in the garden pools. It is a relaxing environment offering panoramic views of the Arc de Triomphe, and the Cour Napoleon of the Louvre. There is also the Luxembourg garden located in the Latin Quarter with a beautiful Medici
