FINDING PEOPLE WITH THE SAME INTEREST IN FITNESS

We need the encouragement of others to keep us motivated to stay fit. Having a friend or spouse with the same interest really helps.

My husband doesn't really love horse back riding as I do, but we somehow challenge each other to stay true to our fitness routines. He does weight lifting and occasional running while I engage in varied exercise routines. Seeing him so true to his regimen makes me determined to stick to my routine as well.

If your spouse is uninterested in fitness, find friends at the gym or workplace who share your interests and activities. That way, you stay motivated and learn more fitness secrets from them.

GO TO YOUR ANNUAL CHECK UP

Annual check up is covered by insurance, so there's no reason that you can't go. If you don't have insurance, invest in your health by having yourself checked by a doctor. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Having your blood chemistry checked enables you to make the necessary steps in preventing certain diseases. For example, if you cholesterol is borderline, you can start lowering your intake of cholesterol rich food and increase the fiber in your diet before levels are high enough to need the aid of statin drugs.

For women, papsmear and mammography are essential to detect the common cancers. The time to start depends on genetics and exposure to risk factors which increases your likelihood in developing certain cancers. This is also true for men in the case of prostrate and colon cancer. They have to be screened with the PSA test and undergo colonoscopy.

Being afflicted with certain preventable diseases increases your chances of staying fit.

BREAK YOUR ROUTINE

Boredom is the playground of the devil. When we come to the point of lacking enthusiasm as we go about in our daily routine, we get tempted to take ourselves for granted. It might be time to take a vacation or do certain things we love but just can't because of the demands of work and household responsibilities.

One doesn't have to spend a lot of money by taking a vacation relatively close to home. . In New York for example, a few hours drive can get us to the Adirondack mountains where a lot of activities can be engaged in such as hiking, biking, trail riding, kayaking and so on.
