Was Jesus Black?
This is a very interesting question. Interesting because we have little to go by considering that nobody has ever seen a picture of Jesus. Interesting because we know what individuals from all different races, cultures, and geographical locations look like today, but that does not necessarily mean each race has remain faithful in their marital relations to only unite and breed with those of the same origin. I also know this is a very controversial question as well. Controversial because there are literally religious organizations formed predicated upon what they think the color of Jesus' skin was and those of the Bible. Just look at the KKK, white supremacy, BJIH (the Black, Jew, Israelite, Hebrews), the Nation of Islam, and etc. However, if there has ever been a source that could give us the answer to this question, than it would be the scriptures found in God's book, the Bible.
In 2 Peter 1:3, the Bible reads, "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue." The Bible teaches that God has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. The color of Jesus' skin was not given to us by the word of God. Therefore, I must conclude that the color of those in the Bible has absolutely nothing to do with life and godliness. However, in answering this question, I will tell you what I conclude to be the answer with scripture and I will, for the benefit of study, provide some historical information as well.
Some have the view that Jesus is black. Some have the view that Jesus is a brunette. Some have the view that Jesus is blonde hair and blue eyes. To answer your question as to whether the people in the Bible, including Jesus were black or not, I must answer with confidence a resounding, "I cannot be certain. The Bible does not say."
The Bible teaches in three ways:
1.Direct Command or Statement (Matthew 4:1-11)
2.Apostolic or Approved Example (1 Corinthians 11:1)
3.Necessary Inference or Implication (Acts 2)
May I suggest to you there is no statement in the Bible stating that Jesus is black. There is no example comparing Jesus to a black man during His time. The only thing justifiable would be to infer that Jesus is black, but we cannot necessarily infer it. Why? It is because we failed in finding a statement or example alluding to it.
