Short stories: Storms

I woke up on Sunday morning and pulled open my bedroom curtains. The sun was shining, it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day. I ran through the shower and got dressed. I went about my usual morning ritual of doing the dishes, vacuuming and basically tidying up.

As noon approached I couldn't handle being inside anymore with the sunshine beaming in and the warm summer breeze drifting through my windows. I put on my bathing suit, grabbed a blanket and went outside to lay in the sun. It didn't take long for the time to go by on such a beautiful day and before I knew it, I had to go pull something out for supper.

It was about 4 in the afternoon and it was starting to cloud over, I thought to myself that it would be nice to go for a walk to the store. I called my friend and invited her and her daughter for a walk, she gladly agreed. Once they were ready with baby in stroller, we were off

It didn't take long for the clouds to roll in and make the sun go away all together. By the time we were halfway to the store it had started to rain lightly. Walking through the parking lot of the store, the rain was coming down extremely hard. We got into the store and grabbed what we wanted and went up to the till to pay for our purchase.

We looked outside and it was really dark and the wind had really picked up. We paid for our stuff and as we opened the door to leave the store, the wind grabbed the plastic cover on the stroller and almost ripped it off. We backed up into the store faster than we went in. It had gotten so bad we couldn't even see the gas pumps 10 feet away.

As quick as the storm came, it was gone again, leaving stuff strewn everywhere. We started our walk home, in shock of the amount of water that fell in such a short amount of time, and the pieces of trees that were laying over the sidewalk. As we came upon our place of residence there was people everywhere, including my boyfriend, wondering where I was and if I was alright.

We were shocked to hear that it was a tornado that had gone through, it had taken out a huge tree in my front yard and the tree had bounced off the corner of her place. Where I live we don't usually have tornadoes, so this was new for all of us. It didn't last long but it sure let us all know it was here.
