All-time best NBA scorers

"Give it to Wilt! Give it to Wilt!" the fans shouted at the top of their lungs. They knew that history was in the making that night in Hershey PA. Not only did the opposing team start to foul Wilt in the fourth quarter to keep him from scoring, his own team started to foul back in order to get the ball into Wilt's hands. He was unstoppable in his Goliathesque frame on his way to a 100 point effort for the Philadelphia Warriors. There has never been such a dominant scorer in the NBA than Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain.

Any of his first seven seasons in the NBA would individually be a career year for 95% of NBA players. He averaged 37.6, 38.4, 50.4 (Still an NBA record)44.8, 36.9, 34.7 and 38.9 points per game. Even more amazing, he averaged 48.5 minutes per game in 1962. Considering that an NBA game is 48 minutes long, that is an amazing feat of endurance. He also played in 10 overtime periods that year and played the entire game 79 out of 82 times. Not only was he unstoppable on the court, he rarely left the court. No other scorer in the history of the NBA stayed on the court longer than Wilt. He is also tied with Michael Jordan for career average at 30.1 points per game and won 7 scoring titles.

Michael Jordan will forever be etched in the memories of NBA fans for his ability to hit the big shot. Who can forget the way he left Brian Russell stretched out on the floor while he elevated high above him to hit the mid-range jumper to win the title for the Chicago Bulls in 1997. He is remembered for jumping over the top of 7-foot Patrick Ewing and emphatically slamming it down in his face. Or his jump from the free throw line where he soared so long in the air that it seemed as though he had discovered the secret to human flight.

MJ is the career leader in points scored during the playoffs (33.4) and has hit more buzzer beaters than I can remember. Everyone knew that Michael would get the ball the last 24 seconds of the game and everyone also knew the ball was going in the bucket. Unlike Wilt, who used his large frame and long arms to score inside, Michael used his vertical leaping abilities and his soft touch to create space between himself and opponents. Opponents knew that if you shut down Michael you beat the Bulls. Problem was that no team COULD shut him down as evident in his 6 championship rings, all while being named the Finals MVP. Ten times he led the league in scoring.

The ball is fed halfway into the paint and is quickly slammed into the hardwood. With a
