Screams of noise and laughter filled the room as the thirty pupils populating the classroom I was in shouted over one another to each air their say.
"What's your favourite subject going to be then Mark?" Asked Peter, the most popular boy in the room.
"Art and design." I replied.
With my reply, peter turned and focused his complete and undivided attention onto me.
"Oh so you like to draw do you? I do a bit of drawing myself.." As he continued to talk, his words faded to a whisper as my eyes pulled me towards a sight I shall never in this lifetime forget.
Standing by the window at the opposite end of the classroom was a figure obscured by the light from the glass reflecting the summer sun, the outline of the body shape was all I could see to confirm that my eyes weren't being cheated by a spell. I strained my eyes to adjust them to the glare of the sun and suddenly, I felt in the presence of an angel.
With a slight tilt of my head to one side, the sun was blocked and my vision had corrected itself. Standing before me as though emanating from the light itself was the definition of beauty, seeing her for the first time was like going to heaven with my feet still on the ground.
Against the backdrop of the pale blue sky, I watched her lips move freely as they displayed a natural quality of eloquence. Time literally stood still as my eyes calculated every inch of her beauty and my mind created a map of her face. Her eyes sparkled with life as they danced in tune to her tone, her aura glowing with innocence.
Just I thought I had strayed into a dream, she looked over at me and she smiled, the sun struck her face most brilliantly. I held her gaze and in an instant, I lost all sense of who I was, I felt scared. Her uncompromising beauty was undeniable.
I briefly looked around the room and was completely flummoxed to why no-one else could see what I was seeing, I wondered why I seemed to be the only one who could see this amazingly beautiful woman.
"Hey are you listening to me?" Peter interrupted as he laughingly poked at me.
"Sorry Peter I was miles away there." I said excusing myself while quietly moving to the side in my effort to get a closer look. She continued to talk with her friends as I stole sneak previews of her all the while trying to decipher what I had just experienced in all it's complexity.
Even to this very day my heart tells me that she has yet to play a part in my life. I will never tire of closing my eyes and seeing her the way I did for the very first time, for that was the day when I saw love.
