drink to enjoy. If you let the water sit unattended it will stagnate, turn sour, and then evaporate. Gram loved metaphors and that was one I never forgot. She also told me that life is a river that flows from the past through the present on its way to the future. And, like the river, life will not always be smooth flowing, and perfect. Sometimes life's current will take you places you do not want to go. There will also be times that storms will arise and create havoc, but you must be strong and endure. Gram warned me to never loose faith because eventually the storm would blow over, the water would recede, and the river of life would flow smoothly once more. Throughout my life I realized that Gram was right as usual. The only thing she forgot to warn me about was the unforeseen tsunamis, and the category five hurricanes that could destroy everything in their paths.
The best advice Gram ever gave me was to march to my own drum, and believe in myself. She said that God gave each of us our own individual spirits to accomplish, and achieve our own dreams. Other gems of advice that she gave me was to always trust my instincts, never judge other people, love every color of humanity that God had produced, and if I didn't have something nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all.
Gram's knowledge and love of nature was immeasurable. Even today, I can truly say that my beautiful Gram was the most intelligent, and interesting woman I have ever known.
