How to transfer songs from iTunes to your iPod

Anybody who's anybody knows of and owns an iPod. And with all the different models currently on the market, you would think it would be difficult to find one that is the easiest to use. Surprisingly, the process for transferring songs from iTunes to your iPod is essentially the same for each model and it isn't as scary as it seems.

1. First, you obviously want to make sure you have iTunes. But not just iTunes, that you have the most recent version. Apple is picky when it comes to compatibility, especially when the technology is changing so frequently, so make sure you're up to date.

2. Install the iPod software that came with your iPod when you purchased it (if applicable) by sticking the CD in your computer and following the instructions.

3. Once all the software is installed, open iTunes and make sure you have music imported into your library. If not, go to "File" then "Add to Library". From here, you're given the option to add folders or individual files.

4. Connect your iPod via the USB cable included with your purchase.

5. Wait a few moments and your iPod with show up on the menu on the left hand side of the iTunes window.

6. You can transfer songs manually by dragging them from your iTunes library to the iPod icon, or you can create a playlist and drag that playlist onto your iPod. You will receive an error message if you try to add more music than your iPod can hold, so don't worry that it's going to malfunction if you get greedy with your song additions. All the iPods have different sized hard drives, so over time you'll become familiar with the capacity of your particular iPod.

7. You will see a "Do not disconnect" message in the iTunes window, so simply heed their warning and leave it alone until the transfer is complete (iTunes will inform you when this is done). Unplugging your iPod or shutting down iTunes before the transfer is complete will leave you with partial files and an insufficient playlist.

8. Click the "Eject" button in the "Source" list and then unplug your iPod from the USB cord connected to your computer.

You should be all set to plug in your headphones and enjoy what your iPod has to offer!
