on the lookout for job openings with those companies.
The second biggest mistake that job seekers make is taking an entry -level job to get their foot in
the door. You should only take entry-level positions that are directly related to your job field. For instance
do not join the Customer Service Department now in hopes to transfer to the Finance Department later.
No matter how much you want to work for a highly ranked company never sacrifice your career goals. If
you can't get the position you want there, then go to a competitor and get valuable experience. Bigger is
not always better. In today's job market the name of the game is who you know and not necessarily what
you know. So try and locate an employee of the company you want to join. Ask families, friends and
school alumni for referrals. If you don't know anyone directly at the company try and make a contact. If
you can access the company's cafeteria go there and meet people. If you get a business card from an
employee contact them via telephone or e-mail. Remember that plenty companies pay employees for
new job referrals. Most people do not mind handing in your resume if they can get a financial reward.
Don't worry if your top choices don't hire you immediately. The companies you choose will always have a
competitor. If you can't get hired by company A' then get a job with company B' or company C'. You will
gain new skills and in the process become more marketable for the future. Look at the big picture and
plan your career wisely. Remember you may have to sacrifice higher salaries for more benefits. Good
luck!
