A job will pay the bills for now but a career job will pay the bills forever. Having a career job will
enable you to take your acquired skills to any employer in the world. You will not be greatly hurt by
company downsizing or shutdowns, because you can take your skills elsewhere. No matter how old you
are you can obtain a career by further education or on the job training. More skills make you more
marketable. The first mistake that job seekers make is looking for jobs and not career jobs. Most college
graduates obtain a degree and then proceed to work in a field that is not directly related to it. Many of us
decide we did not like the career fields that fit our degrees. While others happen to stumble upon a job
and get stuck there until retirement. Numerous obligations dictate our decisions (family, life-style, finances

Company Size (Sales and Asset Figures, Subsidiaries, Total Employees, etc.)
Company Locations (Number of Branches, Geographic Area{Local, National, Global})
Company Status (Fortune 500 Ranking, Competition, Profitability, Earnings, etc.)
Company Demographics (Employee Population, Diversity, Minority %)
Company Positions/Careers (Departments/Branches, Titles, Salaries)
Company Contact Points (Human Resources, Recruiting Agencies, Employees, etc.)
Gather this information at your local library and get a reference book that tells you about the top
employers in your state. The book will also list up and coming companies too. Depending on your career
job title and function you should be able to find at least five to ten companies that meet your criteria. Once
you have your list you should send your resume to the Human Resources Department of each company.
Keep in mind that most companies will keep your resume on file for six months. Once you have sent your
resume, be
