The misconception of prayer

"Taking Time to be in God's Time"

My handwriting looks like the short hand of someone who has flunked out of secretarial school. The letters and words are all blurred together like a note pad that has been left out in the rain. I write everything out first in long hand, and if you had to read a first draft of anything, you probably wouldn't get past the first sentence.

My handwriting has always been a mess. I can remember my third grade teacher saying to me after handing back a handwriting assignment that had a "D" on it, "Tom, you could do better; you just need to take your time." She was right. I rushed my work. She showed me if I took a little more time, just a fraction of a second, my handwriting would improve immensely.
I tried taking my time with the next assignment, and I got a "B." But after that "B," I found just the right fraction of a second that it took to get a "C." I was satisfied with that.
I think about that now whenever I rush to get a job done. I'm still learning my lesson that taking time to do a job well is worth it. Many times it's more about attitude than skill. Take a moment, think it out, make a plan, mind the details, and things should go well.
Did you ever hear a person say, "I don't have time to go on a diet?" But I wonder just how much longer it takes a to eat a carrot stick than a donut? Or someone says, "I don't have time to exercise," and he says it as he is waiting ten minutes for an elevator, and the staircase is right there.
And the list could go on about things we don't have time for-I don't have time to help in the community, but I can sit around for hours and complain about how bad" things are getting. I don't have time to go to church, but I can wait an hour at a restaurant waiting for Sunday brunch.
Think for a second about the things that you don't have time to do. Here are some questions to consider while you make that list-do you really need to do that thing on your list? It's weighing on your mind, but does it need to be done at all? We can over plan. I've had things on my to-do-list for months, and I then decided not to do them, and to my surprise, the earth didn't stop spinning. How about that project that you've been putting off-is it going to take the time that you think it will take? That thing we dread doing may not be as tedious of a chore that we make it out to be.
As busy Americans in a competitive society, we are pressed for time-so many places to go and people to see, and there doesn't seem to be enough
