Why opening a coffee shop is a great business opportunity

Americans are always on the go, not to mention the increasing number of tourists visiting this country. Everyone has to eat. The number one hot drink among Americans is, you guessed it, COFFEE! And, specialty coffees are very popular and becoming moreso.

You better know how to cook if you are going to be successful. Or have a business partner who knows how to cook well enough to make one salivate from smelling those delicious fragrances that tempt the palate. Even if you are a lousy cook, the opportunities are endless for making a better than "decent" living. Make it a point to study other coffee shops in neighboring towns or across town. Take in a self-made check list of Likes and Dislikes as you "rate these coffee shops. Talk to people in the area of where you plan to open your shop. Above all, listen to your potential customers. They bring in the money. If they are not satisfied, word of mouth does get around. If you get several repeat customers, you must be doing something right besides being there to fill their stomachs.

First, and foremost, you must have a good location, one that will be noticed by passersby. Fix up an old building that is well located. Directional signs and posters, free advertising in the business section of the local newspaper, a catchy name, low-cost remodeling of an existing coffee shop...all are contributing factors to your future success. Make sure you price your menu to not only appeal to your customers' pocketbooks, but for you to make more than an adequate profit. Have one or two specialties, such as "yummy pies", coffee lattes, or "salad bar". And you must learn how to make a good tasting coffee that earns repeat customers. Specialty flavored coffees are easy to make. Here is where you can build your reputation.

Plan your menu carefully, keep a pleasant establishment that caters to families and lonely people, and close at a decent hour so you can go home to your family. Detail your plan thoroughly, then carry it through. If you plan well, follow the plan, then the money will follow. Coffee Shop means opening for breakfast, so get into the habit of getting up early.

Go with the flow!
