How to choose great gifts for any occasion

Thoughtful Gifts: I Love Chocolate BUT Not This Year

Every year it's the same thing: a box of chocolate, maybe a tin of cookies, and sometimes a t-shirt that never gets worn outside of the home. Ungratefulness is not what it's about but maybe boredom with giving and getting the same things over and over again.

Here's some thoughts to consider that can help you spruce up your gift giving this holiday season!

Think about what they would want to receive instead of what you want to give. What makes your family member or friend laugh, smile, or tear with joy? What kind of gift will touch their heart? Do you share a special memory with them and if so, how can you turn that into a gift? There are a lot of stores online that can personalize gifts so start early to be sure to take advantage of those offerings.

Put a little fun and flair into your gift. We never want to come off as being strange, but putting a little creativity lets your recipient know how much you care! You can still find great deals on gifts for under $10. Add some creativity and some work and voila! You've got the perfect gift! Take the time to put those "extra touches" on your gift wrapping. Maybe selecting a humorous style gift wrap and tying a fun trinket or key chain to the bow will suit your gift.

Give a message as you give your gift. You're not just giving them a thing. You're giving them a part of your heart, right? Consider some of your gift giving to include inspirational messages of hope, encouragement, and motivation. Please, no negative messages in your gift giving like giving a planner to a disorganized person or a bible to someone who goes to the bar regularly. Just think about what you're saying to them as you give your gift (or sometimes what THEY think you're saying) and if it's not as encouraging as you'd like it to be, choose something else.

Research unique gifts online. Shop at a different store! There are so many gift ideas on the web these days. Try Googling "unique gifts" and see what comes up. There are a lot of creative items that can't be found at the local department store. Try something new and you'll get different results. It'll even be fun!
