Kauai is a spectacular island with many options for fun outdoor adventures. Here is a suggested itinerary for a week-long trip to the island.

Day 1: Take a helicopter tour in the morning. Tours last for about one hour, and give you a great overview of the island to start your trip out. In the afternoon try out surfing at Poipu Beach. Rentals and lessons are cheap through the Nukumoi surf shop. In the evening eat dinner at the Beach House restaurant. The view of the sunset is spectacular from the restaurant, and the food is among the best on the island.

Day 2: Drive up to the Waimea Canyon for a day of hiking. Be sure to stop at all of the lookouts on Waimea Canyon Drive in addition to taking advantage of one or several of the many hiking options. In the evening, enjoy the aloha spirit at a luau (Smith's and Grand Hyatt are both great options).

Day 3: Wake up early for a deep-sea fishing adventure. Trips last for about four hours, and you are typically allowed to keep the fish that you catch. After a long morning under the hot sun, take a relaxing afternoon tasting and tour of the Kauai Coffee Plantation. For dinner, cook up your fresh-caught fish!

Day 4: Rent a kayak for a day on the Wailua river. Enjoy the beautiful views along the lazy river, and be sure to take the short hike up to the Secret Falls. For dinner, stop by Scotty's Beachside Barbeque in Kapa'a for a delicious dinner.

Day 5: Spend the day on the beaches along the Northern coast. Tunnels beach is a great spot for snorkeling and viewing sea turtles. Be sure to take a break from the sun to enjoy a shave ice. In the afternoon, explore the beautiful Na 'Aina Kai Botanical gardens, and stop by the Kilauea Fish Market for a delicious fish taco.

Day 6: Take a day-hike along the Na Pali coast. Start at Kee' Beach and hike to Hanakapi'ai beach, then to Hanakapi'ai Falls. Be sure to leave early to beat the crowds and the sun! For dinner, enjoy a unique pizza at Pau Hana Pizza in Kilauea.

Day 7: Enjoy the Na Pali coast from a different perspective. Relax and take a half-day cruise along the coast.
