Absolutely. Workplace diversity is in full swing and I have been, for a lack of better terms a victim of it. Why do I say a victim? Because a couple of times now I have either lost a job due to what I have heard is "diversification" in the workplace, or because I had tried to diversify the crews that I have had and it did not work at all. When it did not work, it appeared that I had to be the one to take the fall for it because I was in the direct line of fire. The last big corporate entity that I worked for was the biggest and probably still is the biggest proponent of workplace diversity. It is a company that provides operations, housekeeping and security to retail malls across the country. What happened to me after four years of working with extremely diverse crews was extremely uncalled for, unfair and downright sneaky. Here is what happened and then maybe you can decide whether or not workplace diversity lives up to its promise.
The first thing I want to say is that I am an individual who truly believes that every "legal" American has a right to work and to be able to support their family the best way they can. Also, I think it is truly important to state that you will not find a prejudice bone in my body, but sometimes when people are looking for more when they have it all, really delves deep in the inner sanctum of my soul. I used to work for both the security side and the housekeeping side of mall operations and management. I started off as a security officer at a local mall and quickly moved up in ranks and eventually received a promotion to another more prominent mall in my state. As time went on at the second mall, I realized that I was really doing all I could to diversify the security operations with people for different backgrounds because I believed that this would really help with having the customers understand that they would be well taken care of. I had officers who came to the security profession from Africa, Central and South America, Europe and other areas of the country. It was both a challenge and a pleasure training them to be the best officers they could be. As time went on, I also realized that these people were true American in their beliefs as they wanted to do all they could for their families even with the little money they were making. I also realized that they were true Americans in belief because they were ready to go to "war" on 9-11. After things began to change with the structure of the security department
