The evolution of online games

me lol." Since Blizzard was planning to give away baby Murlocs, he dreamed up the protest idea and wandered the streets of Anaheim outside the convention center yelling "You call it quests, I call it genocide."

"I remember walking through the Marriot hotel and people were wondering if I was a Disneyland character or just some nut. If I saw a World of Warcraft fan there for Blizzcon I usually got bombarded with flashes of cameras, cheers and very often hugs, oh yeah . . . and the occasional, 'I need your eyes for a quest!'"

"The highlight of Blizzcon for me was the Q/A. I had no clue what I was going to say, or how to say it, I had a million thoughts running through my head, and the heat from that costume probably didn't help . . . so I started off with 'Can you hold my son' and handed
my plush Murloc puppet to the guy holding the mike." From that point forward the whole "Save the Murlocs" campaign blossomed exponentially, even finding its way into the book The Battle for Azeroth: Adventure, Alliance and Addiction in the World of Warcraft.

The popularity of Tristan's machinima recently landed him a job editing video for Blizzard, the makers of World of Warcraft. What started out on the fringes of gaming culture has now evolved into a whole new genre of online media and is influencing the way online games will evolve into the future. This evolutionary trend might even change RL - the "real world". The first ever social issue online international machinima contest is launching in spring 2008, called "The Quest to Change Real Life". Online video gamers now have a chance to put their game skills to the test and win some extra life for the planet. At www.quest2changeRL.com you can join the quest, and maybe even help evolve not only video games but also the human race.
