Who am I? It all starts out with a genetic mixture from our parents. A genetic mixture that is nourished and polluted by external and internal environmental factors. Hormones passed from our mothers while in utero probably affect the way hormones are released in our own bodies after birth. Birth to early child hood build our self esteems and self worth.
So who am I? I, like everyone else, am a product of my environment. Forever evolving and learning something new, through interactions with others in my life. From the early enforcement of manners and discipline our parents educate us. Teachers, principals and child care providers influence our want and needs to interact with others. By nature we are selfish and self centered. A proper upbringing educates us on empathy and compassion of others.
Our peers affect the way we see our selves sometimes for the good sometimes for the bad. As humans we learn from others and chose our role models according to our feelings, emotions and needs, again environmental influence on who we are and who we are becoming.
Media plays a role in our self esteems, some feel the need to "look like" the images seen on TV. Others are consumed by the advertisements of "forever youth", yet still some see only the pain and suffering hidden behind the scene. Many even judge their worth on how many of the materialistic items, scene in todays commercials, they posses.
Many in our world today do not know who they are. They can not find their nitch, because it no longer exists or is considered a "lesser". Many allow them selves to live under medical induced "titles" that describe who they are and usually take medications to control that person.
Me I am a product of everything I have done and said in my life. I am a product of good and bad lessons learned. I have sought the advice of professionals to no avail, so I became one in hopes of learning what makes me tick. This is what I learned...
Humans have several basic needs...each and everyone of us, if we are honest with our selves, we all have the same needs. The need to be loved and accepted to have food and shelter and to find what makes us happy and content on an individual level.
Sounds easy but in todays world of travel, materialism and money it is not. Many struggle to make ends meet, this gives them feeling of inferiority, and effects their self esteem in a negative way if they let it. Many have the need of money taken care of but have no one they can trust to "just love them", again a negative on the self esteem.
In exploring what defines a person I have discovered it is you. You influence everyone you come across. If you smile and wave, they will smile and wave back (hopefully). If you flip them off and swear at them, they will probably do it back. When these people go home...they will take the mood you put them in with them...now your actions have affected an entire family and maybe the clerk at the grocery store or the neighbor just saying hi. So watch and remember that you are responsible for the people around you too.
