On defining a true Christian

Christianity is a life, and an everyday walk to continuous salvation until one's death here on earth, at which the soul is automatically lifted to be with Christ himself and thereafter rule with him as a co-heir in eternity. The title Christian comes from the name Christ, and it simply means, Christ's followers.

Most people define Christianity by being born in a household that call themselves Christians- more like a group of a certain culture. It is not a title that you inherit, but it is a way of life that you live and follow faithfully. A true Christian bears the qualities of Jesus Christ, and should be ready to carry his/her cross as Christ commanded in Luke 9:23. Not a physical bearing and crucifixion, but to deny oneself of the worldly desires and be ready to follow in the commandments of God.

A Christian should bear the nine fruits of the spirit- which are; love, peace, joy, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These life principals seem to be very challenging to follow, but we have been equipped with all that we need to make this walk pleasant and possible- but believe me or no, we have neglected the order of the law.

Christ commanded us to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and thereafter, all shall be given unto us. When we seek God, we shall find him and immediately, he places his Holy Spirit within us to be our guide and conscious, but we should at that point die to self by denying the demands of our selfish pleasures.

We are told that God is waiting knocking at the door and when we open he comes in- this is an effortless search, for who we seek is actually just on our door step. Jesus told of a parable of the lost sheep, and instead of the sheep to run back towards the handler, he is sort and brought back to the herd. And again, as Christians, we are given a free will to follow him, but he said, he will never leave us nor forsake us. So when you find yourself fall out, you actually left, and not Christ.

A true Christian is salt and a light to the world, and he leads people to righteousness and serves them according to Christ who called our enemies; our brothers. He commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves. In this time, one would say it is difficult to fulfill the will of God with so much hypocrisy around us. That is why the Holy spirit is there to guide you when your judgment fails you. Pray at all times, so you can be in continuous communal with Christ when you come across a difficulty situation. We have been promised of joy and peace of the heart but he said trials and temptations will come and at the same time we have been asked to strive for righteousness.

Christianity sometimes has been misinterpreted, especially when families are neglected in the name of Christ. There are people who work tirelessly for the work of Christ- God bless their souls, but never serve their family as well as they do out there, to the community. Charity begins at home, when you fail to work your land, you can't plant and weed, your labor to the community is worthless. Because, what you ignored to weed, is part of the community, and the very community you are trying to impress, bares your shame unnecessarily. Don't sit back and blame God for what you think he should be doing to aid your Christianity, he has done his part, be a true follower of his word and you will be a true Christian- a Jesus follower.
