must be enough to equal the sum of all previous bets, plus enough to make a profit (table provided at the end of the article). For example, if the first bet is $1.00, and the field does not hit, the second bet needs to be $2.00. If the $2.00 bet wins there is a profit of $3.00 ($2.00 times the 2/1 payout = $4.00 won, minus the $1.00 from the first bet = $3.00 profit.) If the second bet doesn't win, the third bet will have to be $3.00. If the $3.00 bet wins there is a $3.00 profit ($3.00 times 2/1 payout = $6.00 won, minus $3.00 (the sum of the previous two bets) = $3.00 profit.
This betting strategy is continued until the 2/1 field being bet on hits. Then, all bets are cleared and, the $1.00 betting on red and black starts over until another sequence of seven "no shows" comes up again.
That's the strategy. Here's how it played out when I tested it 100 consecutive times. I will use "sequence" to refer to the time I started red/black betting until the time the 2/1 field hit and I won.
Up until sequence 39, I was very impressed. I started my 2/1 betting at $1.00, increasing it accordingly. Over the first 38 sequences, 15 times the strategy paid off on bet number one. Once I had to bet $13.00, but the average bet was only $3.00 and after sequence 38, my winnings were $78.00. But then came sequence 39 which revealed a quirk in the strategy.
On sequence 39, after seven "no shows" I placed my bet. But, the 2/1 field did not hit until spin number 20. Spin 20 requires a bet of $151.00, and risks $451.00 (sum of all previous bets plus current bet) to win $2.00. Because I was playing a table with a $300.00 limit, I was able to keep from losing. But, had I been playing a table with only a $100.00 limit, I would have had to stop at spin 19. Spin 19 is a $100.00 bet with a total of $300.00 at risk (sum of all previous bets and current bet) and is a break even spin. At this point, I would have been in the negative $222.00. It took about 2 and a half hours to make the $78.00. I now would have had to play another 7-8 hours without reaching another 19 spins just to get back to a break even point.
In addition to the table limit problem, I also noticed human emotions and human error can effect the play. Playing roulette using this strategy takes the excitement out of gambling. This is not necessarily bad, but over time, it felt more like a job. There were several instances when it would took 20-30 spins to reach a seven sequence. And often, a six sequence would come about, then be
