US elections 2008: How campaign sparring between Clinton and Obama benefits McCain

Human beings are naturally competitive. In today's America society, we clearly still see the signs of this innate instinct. This instinct is driven by the American consumer culture. Americans always want to nurture their competitive nature by their lifestyle and consumer choices. Eventually in competition, there is going to be one that out performs another. We are currently witnessing this phenomena everyday in our culture when we are viewing the democratic primary struggle to select its candidate for the presidency.

Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama have practically the same agenda for the United States . Although, everyday on TV, on the web, or even around the cooler we hear gossip about how they are different. The rumors of Obama being non-Christian or Clinton 's party slandering and leaking photos to the press have shown the competitive side of politics. All democrats feel competitively engaged in this struggle as well. They feel engaged and are affected by the politics more than ever. The part of society that is going to benefit the most from this competitive nature is going to be the Republicans.

People get resentful when they struggle in competition and turn out unsuccessful. The republicans are using this as their strategy. The strategy comes from one of the oldest proverbs: Divide and Conqueror. Discourse will reign between democratic supporters with either of the candidate's triumph. They will ask such questions as: "Why doesn't the popular vote matter? Who are the super delegates and how come they can change their minds on whom they support? Why does the Media focus more on one candidate than another?" All of these questions hinge on an important idea that is in the back of the voter's mind. The idea is that either Obama's party or Clinton 's party cheated and ruined the integrity of their votes. This idea fosters the resentment towards the victor of the nomination.

Currently all republicans that are voting for John McCain are sitting back and watching this masquerade unfolded. Splitting up the Democratic Party is a clever move for the Republican Party. Not only might they get cross party voters to jump over to them, but they will also see former democratic voters become non voters. Our society needs to become aware of their competitive nature, and still continue to be involved in politics. It is vital not to allow bias mentality to govern voter turn out. This is why the United States has one of the lowest voter turn outs in the world. We must overcome our own natural competitive instincts in order to have true democracy in our nation.
