Speech is the fastest method of communication between people. Therefore, any misunderstanding should be resolved by dialogue, as relationship is the way in which people behave towards each other.
As a man is always man enough to face the other and express his or her feelings, the same should be able to tell when no longer interested, keeping it will not help the situation but will make it worst. When you are no longer interested, it would be honourable if you would say it is over than beat about it, so it will heal once and for all, but when you lie about it and the other party gets to know, the reaction might be suicidal.
