Reflections on real life heroes

laid off his job (he was forced to leave the Army in order to have custody of his kids). Despite all these difficulties, my son is still being a positive person. He is very optimistic about finding a new job, and his current love relationship. He still helps people whenever he can.

My middle child has suffered even more than my eldest son has. He now copes with having severe schizophrenia and diabetes, as well as Post Traumatic Disorder Syndrome.

Despite hearing over three hundred voices telling him to kill himself everyday, my son still manages to not only survive each day, he manages to be a loving husband and family member. He also helps people as much as he can, especially the homeless population.

My daughter is now a single parent as well. She has been struggling to overcome social anxiety, severe depression, and bi-polarity since early childhood. This amazing young woman is now nearing the attainment of an Associates of Art degree. Despite her social phobias, she has attended college as an art major. In spite of all her own mental illnesses and suffering, she puts a lot of effort into being a good parent. She also spends time helping others, and gets involved with a few environmental conservation activities.

All three of these amazing people have endured much pain at the hands of others. All three have had to face life and death situations all throughout their lifetimes. All still have many difficulties to cope with on a daily basis. Yet they still are loving, kind, and generous people. They still manage to see a lot of beauty in the world around them. So to me, they are all heroes and heroines. They have often inspired me to keep going, despite the odds and despite the hardships involved. They have often helped me to see the beauty around me. This is why I now have the courage to work towards fulfilling my own dreams, and why I am now working on attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in communications.
