Solutions to help the homeless

Why do people end up homeless? Simple answer is poverty. Best solution would be to find ways to solve the poverty. Financial help is not all that you can do for the homeless.
Here are few ways in which you can help the homeless:

*Help them find a job: I believe in the old saying "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." Help the homeless to find a job. Then leave everything upon the person to find a home. This way the homeless would try to save every penny to buy a home. On the other hand if he is given money, they may or may not use it to buy a home. Giving more and more money is no solution to help the homeless who might have squandered their wealth ending up homeless.

*Refer them to family housing programs: For the homeless, a temporary shelter is a must until they find a home of their own. Refer them to family housing programs like Red cross program for the homeless or American family housing or National Coalition for Homeless Veterans or any other similar agencies. Yellow pages is a great place to find more about such agencies in your neighborhood. Even Government grants are available to homeless. In most cases, the homeless may not know of such a help. You can help such people by being an intermediary person between the organization and the needy.

*Give your support to Housing agencies: Most housing agencies are non profit organizations. They need your generous support. People who seek help in these agencies need a variety of things from food, clothing, blankets, household products, baby products and all other household items. If you have any of these household products, just donate to a these agencies. These agencies also welcomes financial support. If you can afford, set apart a part of your income to help the homeless regularly.

*Volunteer: Non profit agencies for homeless are in need of people willing to volunteer? If you have spare time, why not consider volunteering at an agency near you? If would be a great way to learn something new and to give your CV a boost. At the same time, you are extending your hand to help the needy.

Think what you can do to help the homeless around you. Extend you help in every way you can. Every small step taken by you can help the homeless!
